WSI began as a 30,000 square-foot building in 1966 to now operating over 50 warehouses in 15 states, totaling 15 million square feet. It has one of the largest privately served rail networks for warehouse providers across the U.S.

“Our growth is due in large part to referrals from our current base of customers. We believe that staying committed to our values and providing great service, safely, has helped us gain our customers’ trust and consequently, an excellent retention rate,” says Simmons. To provide WSI’s clients with the necessary data and analytics, the company adopted Oracle’s Enterprise ERP suite of software. WSI also provides, through its sister company 360data, a comprehensive suite of back-office supply chain solutions including Transportation Management, Integration Tools and EDI. These solutions provide WSI, its customers and partners the most comprehensive tools, data and operating reliability to make the necessary decisions with absolute confidence. “Our continued investment in technology allows us to continuously improve the level of service, business continuity and responsiveness that our customers have come to expect of us,” explains Simmons.

WSI starts each customer relationship with a collaborative process detailing the needs of the customer. “We carefully analyze and understand what our customers are truly looking for and make sure that we cover everything from top to bottom to ensure we can meet the customers’ expectations. Then WSI commits the resources and tools to make their customers successful” says Simmons. “When we reach an agreement, WSI’s experienced start- up team onboards the customer ensuring a seamless, safe, documented and quality experience. Our detailed upfront work enables WSI to understand our customers’ needs that allows us to be fully operational more quickly. We then have the opportunity to continue to apply lean principles to the process for ongoing improvements, adding value for our customers.”

WSI continues expanding its organizational reach through strategic acquisitions and organic growth. Two catalysts of WSI’s growth in recent years have been their expansion into fulfillment and additional chemical distribution solutions. WSI was the Responsible Care Act Vendor of the year in 2018, a first for any third party logistics company. An award decided upon by the American Chemical Association.

In addition, WSI has a unique business model in that “We have an in house engineering capability where we not only operate but also develop and construct buildings,” comments Simmons. An example is a new facility to serve the agrichemical business. Currently under construction in Council Bluffs, Iowais a state of the art building expected to be complete September 2020.
